Junior Development Engineer - Research & Development Department

We are representing a unique engineering client who design, develop and manufacture bespoke equipment for the automotive industry, working with world-renowned brands such as Ferrari, Lotus and JLR.

Job Purpose: You will take sole ownership of the Warranty Process. This will allow for efficiencies in both timing and quality to be made, whilst ensuring that the Engineering team have the correct data to further develop future products. The role will also require the applicant to allocate time to support development and validation tests and tear downs, providing all information required to Engineering to formalise the release of a product.

  • Dissecting valves and exhaust systems.

  • Investigating issues in coordination with the Quality department.

  • Supporting development teardowns and validation testing reports.

  • Supporting Engineering testing (lab based and on vehicle tests).

Responsibilities after the Induction Period:

  • Investigate the acoustic properties of the exhaust valves and systems to further develop valve and exhaust technology.

  • Creating warranty and testing flow charts and procedures.

  • Implementing and enforcing procedures across multiple departments.

  • Dealing with customer complaints and returns.

  • Creating customer level reports to explain failure modes.

  • Feedback warranty statistics and failure modes to the Engineering and Quality teams, utilising statistics.

  • Supporting customer visits.

  • Ensure that objectives are completed on time, in line with Engineering's timing plans.

  • Manage the storage of development and validation parts.

  • Implement a new returns system with Jaguar Land Rover.

  • Present analysis results to technical leads, senior leaders and clients as necessary.

The Person:

  • Degree, HNC or HND in Engineering would be highly beneficial, or from an apprenticeship background.

  • Good hands-on engineering skills either in testing, machining, maintenance, stripping engines down (could be from a forces background).

  • Desire to develop and grow within the role and business and have an interest in research and development.

  • Able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders

  • Team Player yet self-sufficient

  • Good people skills
